PowerBI connect Salesforce Report Refresh Failure (Intermittent)

I recently gotten a failure notice when I refresh Salesforce Report with PowerBI desktop. It happens at intermittent, sometimes ask for login sometimes won't. Even if inputted my credentials, the login will keep asking again for my login credentials.

Previously this does not happen, only until recently which is annoying.

  1. I checked my Salesforce Edition is unlimted , API still has lotsa bandwith
  2. My Salesforce user profile is not clone.
  3. I had done the data source setting to edit every permission 'Public"

Can someone suggest or advise alternative solution ?

Many Thanks

    Anonymous,

What version of Power BI Desktop do you use? Does your salesforce password expire? I would recommend you change your password and check if the issue still occurs.

Also please ensure that  you disable Force relogin after Login-As-User setting in salesforce.

    Regards,
    Lydia

      Hi Anonymous

My PowerBI Desktop version is : Version: 2.59.5135.781 64-bit (June 2018)

My salesforce password does not expire. Every quarter we are required to change our login password.

      I just changed mine.

Login directly into Salesforce or get data as online source Salesforce Report dont have this issue, only when performing refresh  have this issue.

I will check if Force relogin was enabled. If this is not enabled.

Can you advised what are the root cause may cause this problem ?

      Nope no solution temporary.

      Still working with Salesforce Team.

According to them the only way is to change report refresh API to synchronouus to asynchronous.

  • Hi, were you able to find a solution? As a workaround, maybe you can try to test your connection with a 3rd party connector. I've tried windsor.ai, supermetrics and funnel.io. I stayed with Windsor because it is much cheaper so just to let you know other options. In case you wonder, to make the connection first search for the Salesforce connector in the data sources list:

After that, just grant access to your Salesforce account using your credentials, then on preview and destination page you will see a preview of your Salesforce fields:

There just select the fields you need. It is also compatible with custom fields and custom objects, so you'll be able to export them through windsor.  Finally, just select PBI as your data destination and finally just copy and paste the url on PBI --> Get Data --> Web --> Paste the url.

    Hi there,

The thread does not confirm the root cause of the intermittent authentication failures. For a similar issue today, I would reauthenticate the Salesforce data source and check whether Salesforce session IP locking is enabled.

Power BI Connector for Salesforce can also be tested as an alternative extraction method. It uses a separate token-based data source and is not subject to the native Salesforce Reports connector's 2,000-row limit.
