Power query refresh button disappearing on default/dark/light theme

I lost my refresh button on power query editor selection

I found out that changing to Legacy theme I was able to get the button back.

Hi @kiukiu ,

Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft fabric community forum.

As mentioned by @MFelix  this is a known issue introduced in the August 2025 release of Power BI Desktop, where several options in the Power Query Editor ribbon including the Refresh Preview button do not appear when using the new Default, Light, or Dark themes.

As a current workaround:
You can restore the missing buttons by switching to the Legacy theme via: File > Options and settings > Options > Report settings.
In addition to that please note that the Advanced Editor remains accessible through the View tab or by right-clicking on a query. The Refresh Preview button is unique in that it only appears on the Home ribbon, which is why it seems to disappear under the new themes. You can also use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + R to trigger Refresh Preview even if the button is not visible.

The product team is aware of this behavior and is working on a fix for an upcoming update. No ETA has been provided yet. Thanks again for bringing this to our attention. Hope this helps, Please feel free to reach any further assistance.

Thank you.

The Advanced Editor is now shown under "View" tab

Hi @nanda1986 ,

In Power Query the options are always present in several locations in this case the Advance Editor is on the View tab and also right click on the query. And the manage options are also available with the right click on the queries.

Believe that the only one that is present in a single location is the Refresh Preview.

Miguel Félix
