Power Query refreshing after each applied step

I haven't seen this issue in another part of this forum. I am experiencing the following issue. When I refresh a Power Bi model, not only do each of the queries get refreshed, but each applied step in each query must go through a separate refresh process.

In the model below, I have already done a full refresh by clicking "Refresh Preview" then "Refresh All". Here's where the problem starts. For example, in the Data query below, if I click on the first applied step (Source) Power Bi goes through the refresh process for just that step. Once that refresh is complete, clicking on the second applied step (Filter Rows2) causes the another refresh, and so on for every step in the query. Each one of these refreshes takes 2-4 minutes per applied step.

This issue is occuring in many of my Power Bi models, but just started in the last two months. I would appreciate the community's help.

Note: the source data for all of my Power Bi models are large Excel files.

Thanks,

Gary

Hi @Garymac1962 ,

You can try out these:

a. Uncheck Allow data previews in the background

or b) disable loading here

Effective one is to add parameter to limit the data by keeping only top few records except full. Write a power query step with conditional logic to keep limited or full data.  Please check the step by step approach from Guy in a cube video.

If this post helps, please accept this as a solution. Appreciate your kudos.
