Power Query for One Drive created in my username does not work in another person's username

Hi All,

I have created a Power Query to get the list of the files from a folder in One Drive (synced from Sharepoint).

I am getting the data as below:

However, this needs to be handed over to a different user.

And he is getting error that the path is "Invalid" as the path name will be having my username after "C:\users\".

Could you please guide me in resolving this issue.

Hi @sunil_Bengaluru ,

I recommend that you don't put the file locally, put it in a location in OneDrive where it can be shared with others, and then access the file using the OneDrive for Business URL, and that URL should apply to any user with the appropriate permissions.

Thanks for the response.

It seems this URL can be generated only by Sharepoint Admins or similar roles.

And I do not have such privelege in the respective sharepoint folder.

Could you please suggest is there a way to get the Business URL that can work for me and others as well

The path you're using in the query is the one synced to your local computer. If you want to use OneDrive, make sure the other user has access to the files (it's better to use SharePoint than OneDrive, your OneDrive is attached to your user account and is deleted if you leave) and change the path for the files in the query editor to the web path in the source step.

You can get the web path in the info pane for the files in the web browser version of OneDrive. Here's a how-to to swap the path to SharePoint, which conceptually is basically the same: https://youtu.be/2HZ8l23RXnc

Thanks for the answer.

However, I am using Excel 365 and the interface seems to be different.

Also, the Power Query is connected to the folder and sub folders to get the latest file in them.

Hence, the option, i.e. path you have mentioned in your tutorial is not showing up for me.

Could you please share it for Excel too?

Yeah, if you're using Excel you just need to get into the query editor and it should be the same after that. The query editor is in the "get data" menu under "launch Power Query editor".
