Power Pivot Connect To Dim Date Give Incorrect Results

Hi all,

I imported csv files for Jan, Feb, March - 2023 into Power Pivot 22.9M rows.

I joined the data to a data table 1/1/2023 - 12/31/2023 on the data field. Relationship in Model View looks good 1:M.

I was expecting many products for March to show zero and the corresponding products for Feb and Jan to show small integer values 3, 5, 8 a few others.

 

But when I created a Pivot with Products on rows and months on columns - I was surprised to see values for March.

 

One of my co-workers asked what would happen if I removed the Data Table and just use the data from the original csv files. I was surprised this did work and I now see the expected values.

 

Any thoughts on why this worked? I've never seen this behavior before
