Power BI fails to refresh data from Excel files in hidden folder on network

Hi Community,

I am having an issue with an odd problem, and I am hoping having someone here look at it may have an idea as to why I am having the issue.

I have report which pulls data from 4 Excel workbooks. There are at least 7 users that use the report.

Out of those 7 users, there are 4 users which encounter the error shown below when trying to refresh the data:

So what is odd is that I am the network admin and I am have full rights to the folders where the files are residing, and I encounter the same error. I don't believe it's a rights issue...

Is there something I am overlooking?

Any help or insight would be much appreciated.

Thank you!

  • click on "View errors"

Sit on your hands for a couple minutes  (ie be patient)

Open Power Query editor and examine the error section

Correct the columns that either have "N/A"  in Excel, or some other form of data type mismatch.

  • Hi there,

Thank you for replying to my post! Much appreciated.

Power BI says it can not display the errors:

    Anything else I can try?

Do these users have Power BI Desktop perchance?  Can they try to load the Excel files?

Do their locale/culture settings differ from yours?

Given the large number of errors you should be able to see these too - Do a column profiling based on entire dataset

        HI Ibendlin,

We're all running Power BI Desktop. There are 3 users which are able to load the Excel files without any errors. Then the other 4(myself included) can not refresh the report without the data refresh erroring on 2 of the 4 Excel workbooks which serve as the data source for the report.

I will try what you suggested, and will update the post.

Thank you for taking the time to reply- it is most appreciated!
