Power BI Connector Certification
Hi team,
We are currently trying to support a custom Power BI connector for one of our services and are wondering if it is still possible to achieve certification for a custom Power Query connector?
More specifically, is submission of a .mez file still valid? As described here. We already have a custom connector written, but the blog post Empowering our customers to shape the future of data connectivity in Power BI and Microsoft Fabric indicates that the new process means development of new connectors must be led by Microsoft.
Thanks in advance for any assistance.
Hi taylorc,
Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft fabric community forum.
As per the current update from Microsoft, the earlier certification process for custom Power Query connectors including submission of .mez files is no longer open for new public connector certifications.
You can still build and use custom connectors internally within your organization without any issue. However, getting a connector certified and included as a built-in connector in Power BI or Microsoft Fabric is now handled directly by Microsoft, and it is not something that external developers can initiate through the old submission process.
For the latest direction, I would suggest following the announcement you mentioned, as it reflects the current approach Microsoft is taking for connector development and onboarding.
Hope this helps if you have any queries we are happy to assist you further.
