I wish to automate creation of Power BI reports for different datasets.
The reports would have similar data and charts to showcase. However, the underlying data and structure of variables in the datasets would vary. For example, a bar chart may be used to show incidence %age for a variable. However, currently I have to manually re-select the variable to be shown in this chart for different datasets. In this way, I create a different version of the report for each dataset.
Is there a way out to automate this process, say I could create a chart template of multiple pages and then, could simply select variables to be shown on a particular chart for different datasets.
Hi @Anonymous ,
You can try to create template reports in power bi desktop. With Power BI Desktop templates, you can streamline your work by creating a report template, based on an existing template, which you or other users in your organization can use as a starting point for a new report's layout, data model, and queries.

Here's what you can currently do:
- push a dataset into a workspace
- change the data sources for a dataset
What you cannot do is modify the report meta data while it is on the service.
Have a look at ALM Toolkit and see how far they have pushed the customization.
Hi, is there a way to modify the meta data too?
