I created a report using a local on-prem SQL Server database with Power BI desktop.
Published the report to Power BI. The message says that the report successfully published, but also said:
“Publishing succeeded but the published report cannot connect to the data source because we were unable to find a gateway.
Please install and configure an enterprise gateway.”
I have installed and configured a Personal Gateway. It is up and running and showing: “Connected: You’re good to go!”
When attempting to run the report in Power BI, I receive the following error:
“Couldn’t load the data for this visual. You do not have access to an enterprise gateway.”
I am confused as to which gateway I should be using. Shouldn’t a personal gateway allow access to this local sql database?
Thanks
Hi All. I have a problem with my gateway. I've setup a enterprise as well as a personal gateway and all is connecting. When my dataset is linked to my personal gateway the data is correct (e.g. 400K). As soon as it's linked to the enterprise gateway the amount is 100K - less(300K) - it is definitly pointing to the same database (mysql - scheduled refresh) - has anyone experienced this before. Both gateway increase as the month progress but the dataset that is linked to the enterprise is always less. Please help, where do I start to troubleshoot
Thanks for the reply.
For that dataset, clicking settings results in:
"We don't support settings for this dataset"
Are you using DirectQuery? The Personal Gateway only works for hosted data models. DirectQuery would require the Enterprise Gateway.
It was direct. I made the change to load the data locally and that fixed the problem.
Thanks for your help.
@dslattery Power BI Personal Gateway should server your purpose. Did you getting status as online when you go to dataset? as shown below
