PBIX files stored on sharepoint unable to open

We are trying to move more of my teams document storage to a O365 online Sharepoint environment, as opposed to using shared folders on servers or onedrive.

We want to ensure for Business Continuity that all reporting files etc are accessible by more than one individual, rather than in personal folders.

However when I save a PowerBI PBIX file to Sharepoint it doesnt seem to recognise the file type and it wont let me open the file from Sharepoint.

Looking at previous posts in the forum this appears to have been an issue for a number of years, is there any plan to resolve or should I be sticking with shared access folders?

Hi @carlbh ,

I'm afraid that the pbix file still cannot be opened online in SharePoint currently. We only could download the pbix and open it.

Please vote this idea and add your comments there to improve Power BI and make this feature coming sooner.

Best Regards,

Workaround. You can copy/paste the path of the folder from SharePoint into Windows Explorer, and then open the file. Copy address https://[your tenant].sharepoint.com/sites/[sharepoint site name]/[containing folder] and paste into Windows Explorer

Additionally, you can pin the folder to your Windows Explorer Quick Access to get there quicker next time. And don't forget that once you do get the file from SharePoint to open in Power BI you can pin to the File > Recent items.
