OneDrive and SharePoint Access forebidden

Hi all,

Up until a few months ago I was using the web connector in Excel Power Query for queriying OneDrive and SharePoint files, and it was working fine.

However, it seem after doing an update the connector will no longer work and through up an "Access to resource is forbidden" error.

This occurs in bow excel and Power BI, is there a privacy setting a need to look at? I'm pretty sure ive addressed all that though.

My second thought is that maybe the restriction is at an admin level (which I am not), would this be the case?

Your help on this would be great as a lot of the reports I am starting to build are for wider use in the organisation.

This happens sometimes with SharePoint/OneDrive connections.  Go to your data source settings and clear/edit/update the authentication credentials.

Agree with mahoneypat but would add that there is a problem with linking into a onedrive file that is shared with you as a data source. That just will not work even if you are granted full editing / contribute / god-like access.

    Hello Anonymous

can you share the link of the file you are using? Maybe you have to change the way you are accessing the files.

    Hi Anonymous ,

You can try these steps to check:

    1. Clear the data source credentials in 'Data Source and settings' and re-connect to the data source

    2. If your site is Office365, please enter organizational credential. If your site is on premise, use Windows credentials. In addition, make sure that you use the latest version of Power BI Desktop.

You can also refer these simliar issues and articles that could help you:

    1. FIX: Power BI error Access to the resource is forbidden
    2. Access Forbidden connecting to SharePoint Online List
    3. SharePoint List Access to resource is forbidden
    4. Import data from external data sources (Power Query)

thank you all for the responses and assistance, the clearing of permissions kind of helped, still seemed to be met with a "could-not-establish-trust-relationship-for-ssl-tls-secure-channel" error? Haven't seen this beofre.
