On-Premises Data Gateway needs port 80 for installation

Dear all,

According to the documentation the On-Premises Data Gateway needs outbound ports 443, 5671-5672, 9350-9354 to be opened.

We managed to get all required ports opened on our server/network.

Now I want to install the new On-Premises Data Gateway on the server, and it appears tthat the installation needs port 80 (!!).

I downloaded the install file on my local PC, copied the install file to the server, and ran it. Then I got this message:

The on-premises data gateway installer failed to download.
A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond 104.121.25.166:80

Is there a place where we can get the complete install program? Or does anyone know another workaround?

If not, dear Power BI team, please update the documentation, or better, change the installation program.

    Hi waltheed,

Based on my research, Power BI gateway on the on-premises server communicates with cloud services with outgoing ports 9350-9354.  It falls back to 443/80 if the other ports are not open or cannot be used due to several reasons. Please also add an outbound Windows Firewall rule for TCP port 80 and check firewall rule for the IP address 104.121.25.166, then check if you can configure gateway successfully.

In addition, you can download on-premises gateway from this link: https://powerbi.microsoft.com/en-us/gateway/ .

    Thanks,

      Hi Lydia,

      Thanks for your explanation.

My problem is that the installation program requires port 80. In our IT organisation opening ports on servers is a sensitive subject. We managed to get the other ports opened, but adding port 80 will take another couple of months....
