On Premise Data Gateway and Local Computer User Permission Error?

Is anyone running a On Premise Data Gateway using one account to register/sign-in the OPDG software on the on-premise computer and a different account in the Gateway setup on Power BI .com ? I'm receiving an 'invalid credentials' error for credentials I know are good. After a few hours of reading I think they need to be the same account. I'd like to know for sure before I go down this road.

    Anonymous ,

It doesn't matter  that you use different account to register on-premises gateway and sign in Power BI Service. As long as  you add the account you use to sign in Power BI Service as gateway administrator.

In your scenario, which data source do you add within the gateway? Please make sure that you are able to access the data source from gateway machine. You can install client in the gateway to test the connection.

Thank you for the suggestion. I added the account to the Gateway administrators. All of the connections are good if I use a different account.

I am still receiving an error:

What data source do you add within gateway?Could you please export gateway log following the guide in this article?

In addition, please make sure you are able to access the data source from the gateway machine using same connection string.

        Regards,

  • I got the same error and I'm using AdventureWorks from SQL

  • I am using AdventureWorks from SQL Server and according to the error the server side could not understand my request. I fixed the error by entering the user name from SQL Server in the username field as credential since the error states that a domain needs to be added.

    I hope this help.

    Best whishes.
