On-Premise Data Gateway, Data Source cannot connect with Analysis Services

Just finished isntalling the on premise gateway. I am able to connect a data source to my database when it is set to "SQL Server" but when I change it to Analysis Services I am getting error regarding Either the user, xxx, does not have access to the XYZ database, or the database does not exist.:

Do I need to have a service or something else running at the server end to use the gateway with Analysis Services?

I don’t see any way to remove or edit an existing data source under “Manage Gateways”. The apply and discard buttons at the bottom are grayed out as are all fields except user and password. But it appears that I can create a new one. I was trying to create a new one with Analysis Services as the Data Source but getting errors on the credentials. Maybe I am using the wrong one for SSAS. Will follow up when I hear from our provider that initially setup SSAS.

Hi @Anonymous,

Firstly, after you add a data source for SQL Server database under gateway, you are not able to change the type of the data source to SSAS. But you can remove the existing data source by using Remove button as shown in the following screenshot.

Secondly, when you add new data source for SSAS database, please post the exact error message that you get about credential. And I would recommend you check if you can successfully connect to the SSAS database using SQL Server Management Studio(SSMS), if there is no issue with using SSMS, please enter same user name and password when adding SSAS data source under gateway.

Thanks,

I went back to square one - to the beginning. Turns out we were using IIS not SSAS for that other app. So I have to go through setting up the SSAS instance and database first on my 2014 SQL Server. Got ahead of myself, should have this working soon.

Thanks for the help.

@Anonymous First, I assume you have SSAS installed and the user you are trying to connect with has permissions on the instance.

Second, have you tried to create a seperate new data source for the SSAS connection instead of changing the source type on the existing one? My initial guess is that something is cached with that connection that is causing issues if you try to flip the connection type.

Hi @Anonymous,

Please notice that if your power bi account id (email login powerbi.com) is different with your UPN in SSAS, after configuration SSAS with gateway, you need one more mapping step to map your email with UPN which has permission to SSAS cube.
