Merging Files or folders-2 excel files into power bi
hello team,
i have an issue trying to merge the data set or excel in a folder. i have a original data set in excel that used to collect data per month for KPI and its pivoted, we have separated files for 2025 to 2026 and it is stored in a folder,i have tried to get data via folder not individual excel files, and am confused. would you be able to assist me? refer attached screenshotsthis is the two excel files 2026 and 2026 in a folderthis is the template that is pivoted and as more tabthis is in power bi , folder extractions

Took two sample similar excel files and placed into a folder
Then pushed to Power BI through 'Folder' connector from 'Get Data' then navigated to the folder excel files are in. Click Ok
Click Transform Data
It navigates to Power Query Editor. Click on icon having two down arrows which is 'Combine Files'
Click Ok
From Queries pane on left side, you can see a combined merged table named 'Test Folder' under Other Queries.

Hi ssylvester ,
I'm not sure, if understand in detail, what confuses you, but the following hints might help you:
- Obviously you already managed it to read the files from the folder
- If you ask Power Query for reading files from a folder it generates a parameter, a function and a "Transform" query, all saved in a "Helper Queries" folder
- Usually you don't have to deal with most of that stuff, except the "Transform Sample File" Query. That's the place where you should all the steps that should be performed with every file. If you want to promote headers, do it there. If you want to remove columns or do any other changes to your columns, do it there.
