Measure to analyze data generated as YTD cummulative
Good day,
Please I need assistance on the measure to use to analyse a data generated on a cumulative year to date basis.
| Year | YTD cummulative | Expected monthly Result |
| Jan | 500 | 500 |
| Feb | 1000 | 500 |
| Mar | 1500 | 500 |
| Apr | 2000 | 500 |
| May | 2500 | 500 |
| Jun | 3000 | 500 |
Thank you

To analyze data generated on a cumulative year-to-date (YTD) basis, you can use various measures and calculations to gain insights into your data. In your example, you have the YTD cumulative values and the expected monthly results. To further analyze this data, you can calculate metrics like monthly increments, year-over-year growth, and the actual vs. expected values. Here are some measures you can use:
1. Monthly Increment: This measure calculates the increase in the YTD cumulative value each month.
Monthly Increment = YTD Cumulative (Current Month) - YTD Cumulative (Previous Month)
For example, for February: Monthly Increment = 1000 - 500 = 500
2. Year-over-Year Growth: To analyze how your YTD cumulative values compare to the same month in the previous year, you can calculate year-over-year growth.
Year-over-Year Growth = (YTD Cumulative (Current Month) - YTD Cumulative (Same Month Last Year)) / YTD Cumulative (Same Month Last Year)
For February, if you have data for the previous year, you can compare the YTD cumulative value for February this year with February last year.
3. Actual vs. Expected Monthly: To evaluate how your YTD cumulative values compare to your expected monthly values, you can calculate the difference between the actual YTD cumulative and the expected monthly value for each month.
Actual vs. Expected Monthly = YTD Cumulative (Current Month) - Expected Monthly Result
For example, for February: Actual vs. Expected Monthly = 1000 - 500 = 500
These measures will help you analyze the data in various ways. You can use them to track performance, identify trends, and make decisions based on your YTD cumulative data. Depending on your specific goals and the context of your data, you may also want to consider additional measures or visualizations to gain deeper insights.
