M-Query NaN and IEEE 754 Discrepancy

My limited understanding of IEEE 754 and NaN is that it is not less than, equal to, or greater than any other number. So I'm a little confused why

{ #nan < 0, #nan = 0, #nan > 0 }

returns

{ true, false, false }

Can someone point me to the documentation that describes this behavior?

I have read the Power Query Language specification, Relational Operators section and it indicates:

  • If either operand is #nan, the result is false for all relational operators.

Is there another place in the documentation that overrides this statement?

This might be a good question for Ben Gribaudo?
