Is it possible to refresh using excel data in O365 SharePoint as the source?

I have tried to create a report/dashboard that connects to a number of excel files stored on an O365 sharepoint team site document library that will refresh however the refresh fails with message cancelled by user.

Using Excel or Power BI desktop the refresh works fine.

      Hi Konstantinos

I created a number of queries in Excel 2016 Power Query to get data from Excel files stored on a SharePoint team site in O365, then appended the queries to bring the data together along with some grouping etc.

Every time I tried to refresh the service returned a message to say the refresh was cancelled by the user.  I have since deleted the data source in Power BI and published the file again, now i'm getting a different error "Information is needed in order to combine data" which i guess means it is trying to sync.

The same queries work fine in Excel 2016

BTW the link you posted doesn't work - 404 Sorry, but nothing exists here

        a_k_reynolds Sorry the correct..

        OneDrive Valid links

Did you try the same with PBI Desktop Excel 2013?  Not sure if PowerBI will work with 2016 queries since now is not an add in..I think it will work since it only gets the connection strings but..( some maybe help us with compatibility )

You can test the connections in PBI Desktop by importing the excel data model, queries, powerview etc..Hope it works with 2016..GO to File -> Import Excel..It works great with excel 2013..
