I can't disable personal gateway of a certain dataset

I initially set up a personal gateway thinking (errouneously) that I needed to have one enable to refresh the datasets I was creating.  When I realized that I did not need a personal gatgeway (Salesforce.com data only) I uninstalled the gateway. Now one of my data sources will not refresh because it is set to use the personal gateway.  I tried to disable the gateway to "connect directly" but the option is greyed out.  So the question is: How do I get this datset decoupled from the personal gateway? the dataset was creted in Power BI Desktop.

thanks for any help!

Hi,

I am having the same problem. Did you find any solution to this?

Same here.
Have contacted support 3 weeks ago.

Now at escalation to product team.

Will post my complete understanding of how it works when resolved.

I found what my problem was. I have set up Personal Gateway very long time ago, which I uninstalled from my server and removed from Power BI Service as I moved the databases to Azure SQL Databases.

I had one single table from one of our on-premises SQL databases as I was experimenting with some new visuals. I completely forgot that I still had this table in the data model when I published the reports to Power BI Service. Then, when I installed the gateway again, it tried to use it and refused to disable it because of this one table I forgot to get rid of after my experiments.

Make sure that in your data model there are no tables that are actually using/used the personal gateway.

I hope this is something that can help you.

Many thanks for taking the time.
My "symptoms" are that the personal Gateway has been uninstalled (and in the service when i click on Manage Gateway, i am told i have none) , but when i publish from Desktop, the Dataset created in the Service is marked as requiring my (former) Gateway and mentions that it is offline.

I am trying to understand where the Gateway Existence is located and why it has not been set to "none" after removal of the Gateway...

Hope this is not too confusing

@Megachuckmc What led you to believe you didn't need a gateway? I'm not completely familiar with the Salesforce Objects datasources in the Desktop, but if you import that data into the desktop, you need a gateway to refresh the dataset in the Service. There is a SalesForce Content Pack in the PBI Service that would not require a gateway, but they are two different things.
