How do I publish to a fixed URL from different workspace's

We have a shared Pbix file stored in a SharePoint file, but by default individual workspaces for working on this file - is there a way we can publish to a fixed URL from the different workspaces?  This is something that we could previously do, but recently this seems to have changed??

Hi @KJN,

Thank you for reaching out to Microsoft Fabric Community.

Thank you @cengizhanarslan and @oussamahaimoud for the prompt response.

After validating the changes in the individual workspace, you can manually promote the content like just open the pbix file in power bi desktop and publish it again to the shared or production workspace.

That production workspace should be the one connected to the power bi app which provides the fixed or stable url for users.

Thanks and regards,

Hi @KJN,

Hope you are doing well!

This is almost certainly what changed. Microsoft recommends using the embedded report URL from the App, not the original report URL from the workspace.

https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/collaborate-share/office-integration/service-embed-report...

A Power BI App provides a stable, separate URL that is decoupled from the underlying workspace. Here's the workflow:

  • Everyone publishes/works in their individual workspaces as normal.
  • Content is promoted to a single shared/production workspace (via Deployment Pipeline or manual publish).
  • A Power BI App is published from that production workspace.
  • Users are given the App URL, this stays fixed as long as the App exists, regardless of who published or what workspace the content came from.

Note that Microsoft has been tightening direct workspace sharing in favour of Apps. If users were previously accessing a direct workspace report URL, that approach is now less reliable and less recommended.

Hope this helps. Feel free to ask me more questions if needed. Don't forget to mark as solution and kudos, that's motivate me to keep helping 🙂

Thank you - how do we promote content to a single shared/production workspace using manual publish, after we have published to the individual workspaces?

You could use Sharepoint for report publishing. With this you would be able to have same reports in different workspaces. Please check the following link: https://community.fabric.microsoft.com/t5/Power-BI-Community-Blog/Seamless-Power-BI-Report-Managemen...

Thanks, this is what we already do...do you mean we need to publish directly from the Sharepoint file, not individual workspaces?
