Solved

File cannot be updated because of the user name

Hi everyone,

I have a Power BI file that accesses an Excel on a TEAMS server. Now I have the problem that the data source in the file path contains my user name (C:/User_Johndoe/Data). When another user tries to update the power bi file, there is an error message. Is there an easy way to solve this problem?

  • Hi, there are two ways you can collaborate with mates to keep the refresh on going.

1- Using parameters. Set a path parameter so you can write it down each time a person uses the Desktop and have the file in a local environment.

2- Look for the file in onedrive. The files you have on Teams are usually stored in onedrive. So you can connect to that file like the following post: https://blog.ladataweb.com.ar/post/185337134590/alternativa-para-conectar-power-bi-a-onedrive

If you go with solution 2, make sure to share the file to the users in the drive.

    I hope that helps,

  • THX, Ibarrau. I tried solution 1 and even if I do not have any knowledge in using parameters, I was able to make it with the help of a Youtube-Video 😁
