Error when trying to convert shared dataset to DirectQuery
Yeah, I see what you're saying, I just picked one of my datasets at random and clicked the 'make changes...' and I got the same error as you.
I tried a different dataset in a different workspace and I was able to make changes.
Then I tried to add the original dataset back in and got this error...
Something definitely seems to be wrong.
There is this old post that seems to be a similar issue.
I'll see if I can figure out any relationship between the issue and workspace/dataset I tested.
wow ... thats's scary

Are any of your data sources streaming datasets?
I am able to make changes as expected if I don't accidentally choose a streaming dataset.
Maybe check the tenant admin settings to ensure an update hasn't gone and turned something off? Something around the 'Allow XMLA Endpoint....'

no, almost all of our shared datasets are imported .... and unfortunately, another internal admin team has control of our PBI tenant settings
