Error when trying to convert shared dataset to DirectQuery

Question

I have a shared dataset using the default Live Connection but want to convert to DirectQuery to add additional data sources. When I click the "Add a local model" button in the dialog box, we get the following error:

The feature was working several months ago. We're currently using the June 2021 version of Power BI Desktop.

Any ideas on this issue?

Start by updating to the latest version of PBI Desktop would be my first suggestion.
Check the settings for the feature would be my next.

Thanks for the suggestions.&nbsp; I did the update to the current version and checked the Preview settings, but still getting the same error.

Can you connect to that dataset from a new PBIX?

yes, and I can create a new visualizion from it. The error pops when I try to add a new data source for additional data.

Yeah, I see what you're saying, I just picked one of my datasets at random and clicked the 'make changes...' and I got the same error as you.
I tried a different dataset in a different workspace and I was able to make changes.
Then I tried to add the original dataset back in and got this error...

Something definitely seems to be wrong.

I'll see if I can figure out any relationship between the issue and workspace/dataset I tested.
