Downloading Analyze in Excel app is in German - Need US English

We are located in the US. I need to install the Analyze in Excel app for a user.

  • Windows 7 region is set to US, English
  • Language in Excel/Office 365 apps is US English
  • Language in Office 365 portal for user is US English.

But we've downloaded two times from the Power BI portal and it keeps giving us the German language when installing with no option to change it. How can I get the US English version?

I'm having the same issue.  Any word on this?

They have acknowledged it is a problem and are working on it. For now, go to

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=52676&751be11f-ede8-5a0c-058c-2ee190a24fa6=...

Then select your language, then download.

Then get the ENU\x64\SQL_AS_OLEDB.msi file.

However, it is still a mess. Ours doesn't work. Lots of problems here http://community.powerbi.com/t5/Issues/Excel-not-conntecting-to-BI-Models/idc-p/291792 and the workarounds don't help our environment for some reason. We aren't the only one.

@edhans,

What error message do you get when you use "Analyze in Excel" now?

I still get this error:

The "learn more" takes me to the generic Power BI page at https://powerbi.microsoft.com/en-us/documentation/powerbi-service-how-should-i-share-my-dashboard/

@edhans,

What version of Office do you install? Please update your Office to latest version and use Publisher for Excel instead to connect to your dataset in Excel.

I have 1711 build 8711.2037. It is the latest. Tried manual updating and it said there are no updates available.

I am using the "Power BI" addin tab in Excel.

@edhans,

I can use Publisher for Excel in the following version(Build 8730.2022) of Excel. In your scenario, what is the result when you directly use "Analyze in Excel" option in Power BI Service?

Lydia, you must have a Microsoft internal build of Office. For Insider builds (formerly fast ring) the latest for 1711 is 8711.2037, not 8730.2022 that you have.

I can use the Analyze in Excel from the PBI service and that works, and is an ok work around, but that makes it difficult to integrate a PBI report in another file. From the service, it always starts a new file.

@edhans,

The Publisher for Excel issue has been reported internally, I will post back once I get any updates, currently, please use Analyze in Excel as workaround.

Lydia

Not quite the same problems.

After I installed the SQL OLEDB app and downloaded/opened the .odc file from Power BI in Excel, I get the following error after providing my login credentials: "The following error occurred: (The operation completed successfully)." ....... and nothing happens. I cannot refresh the query, nothing...
