Data Refresh Appears to be processing all rows

Hey Everyone,

Very new to Power BI and Power Query etc. I have a dashboard pulling in HR data from a data cube / SSAS. I am importing the data as opposed to using a live connection as I'm combining data from various systems in this dashboard. I'm looking for some clarification on how the data is processed during a refresh and/or after applying changes to the query. I have a table, "Position Control - 5 Year Daily Summary", that onced loaded, contains 1.3 million rows. However, during the refresh, I'm seeing that Power Bi is processing all of the data in the source table .... or at least appears to be.

Here are my applied steps. I filter the data by date and by soem other criteria resulting in the 1.3 million rows.

Is this expected and if not, how does one avoid it?

Thanks and please excuse my ignorance 🙂

**** Update:

I believe this has to do with Query Folding (https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/power-query/query-folding-basics). Filtering by date is occuring within the power query engine and is not being offloaded to the data source. Evaluating how to correct this. Will post another update if successful .....

Run a MDX query that includes the filters.
