Hi All,
I have read the documentation for Essbase connectivity from PowerBI as datasource in this article and have following questions as we have use cases and requriements from users.
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-query/connectors/essbase
Is this document latest?
Prequiste mentioned is Essbase 11.1.2.x version, is any other Essbase version supported as we are on Essbase 19c/21c.
Is there a future vision to enhance this connectivity? Like enabling single sign on or authentication encrypytion, or addressing limitations?
Is it possible to request demo for this connectivity?
Regards,
Naresh
Hi @Naresh1511
The current Essbase connector is for connecting to an Essbase server. As Essbase 19c/21c is not listed in the connector document, I'm afraid they are not supported currently.
I found the following thread from the Oracle Support website. As I don't have Oracle Support Account, I'm not able to see the details in Solution section so I don't know if there is any solution there. You can log in your Oracle Support Accout if you have one and find details there.
Essbase 21c: Power BI Unable To Connect to Essbase 21c (oracle.com)
There are currently no public plans to update the connector, so we don't know if there would be an update.

Jing
Thanks Jing for responding. I did check the Oracle support document but they have only mentioned the changes t o client service urls. We have already updated url in the power bi connector but it does not work and would not display essbase applications under 21c. Hence wanted to check here.

Hi @Naresh1511
The latest news about Essbase connector update I found is still from this blog published in 2019 while Essbase 19c and 21c became available in 2020 and 2021, later than the blog. So I'm afraid they are not supported by the current Essbase connector.
Perhaps you have to consider other alternatives, like exporting data from Essbase 19c/21c into files or databases that are supported by Power BI. If Essbase 19c/21c provide APIs for querying data, you can also consider using Web connector or Power Query Web.Contents function to query data from those APIs directly. Exporting data into files should be the easiest approach and you need to arrange a schedule refresh for updating the data in Power BI Service.
Best Regards,
Jing
