Connecting Sharepoint Folder to PowerBI
Hi dgeib, I made a quick example since it's easier to show than just tell:
1) Navigate to your sharepoint site where the file(s) that you want to connect are located and select the URL up to the folder you want to navigate to (e.g. "https://yoursharepointname.sharepoint.com/sites/MyTests" in my example below; I just replaced our actual sharepoint-name with a placeholder here for the screenshots):2) Select the SharePoint folder connector in Power BI since you're trying to connect to an Excel-File:
3) Enter the URL up to the folder-name that we copied in step 1:
4) Sign in with your microsoft account (unless you're on an on-prem sharepoint server)
5) If all the files in the folder have the same structure and should be treated similar to a folder connector, you can use the combine button, otherwise select "Transform Data" to select one or multiple specific file(s) within Power Query Editor:
6) Select the File(s) you want to load and use the two arrows next to "Content" to load the content:
I hope that helps!
Hi dgeib ,
To connect to sharepoint the best option is to connect to sharepoint folder, be aware that if you have a lot of files in your sharepoint you may not be seeing them in the preview data, I suggest that you filter based file type and then on name if you have a lot of files.
hi dgeib ,
thank you MFelix and KarinSzilagyi for your valuable input.
I agree with MFelix.
