Connect to mySQL DB without local gateway

I'd like to connect to a mySQL DB without using a local gateway.   The DB is currently on an AWS EC2 server, so it is possible to connect to that without a local gateway?   If not, I'd be willing...

    Unless I am mistaken, the only databases supported by the cloud gateway are Azure SQL DB, Azure SQL Data Warehouse, Azure Analysis Services and Spark on Azure HDInsight.

    Do you have any insights on Azure MySQL and PostgreSQL? Do they require an on-premises gateway or a cloud gateway?

    Your knowledge in this might be constructive for me!

      I just had to migrate my database from a Linux MySQL server to Azure Database for MySQL flexible server. Pain in the butt but managed to get everything to work. Now my PowerBI Service dashboard is able to automatically refresh without a local gateway.

       

      Can confirm Azure Database for MySQL flexible server does connect to PowerBI service and can automatically refresh without local gateway.
