Connect to Power BI Dataflow

When I try to connect to a power bi data flow I get an error that says an unexpected error has occured. I click sign in and do the typical OAuth2 process. Then it just takes me back to the page shown in image below. Any ideas why this is happening and how I can connect one dataflow to another dataflow in PQE online?

  • I am not sure exactly why this happens but it does routinely happen to me also.  There are a couple of work-arounds based on where you are when you see this.  Do you see it when you are creating a new dataflow and select to add linked entities - or are you already in the Power Query editor in a dataflow and are trying to connect to a Power BI dataflow with Get Data?

🙂  Same here!  When I click Get Data > Power Platform > Power BI Dataflows, the screen usually has a gateway selected by default and it says I am signed it.  If I change it here to another gateway or change it to no gateway it says that I am not signed in, I click the button to sign in and then get the same error you get.  However, instead, I just let it have whatever default gateway is and click Next, choose my workspace/dataflow/tables, etc.  Then on the ribbon, I go to Options > Project Options, change the gateway there to none, check the box for combined data > okay.  The queries will then prompt for Power BI credentials.  Select one of the queries, click Configure once the credentials message loads > Sign in.  I see the same error again there, however, if I then click cancel and click refresh, I am signed in, all queries authenticate and there is no association with a gateway.

    Hi JaromBIDEVatDK

Linked entities are only available in a dataflow in a workspace that's hosted on Power BI Premium capacity (PPU or a Premium capacity subscription). Also, linked entities only work properly in new Power BI workspaces, and, likewise, all linked dataflows must be located in new workspaces.

Based on above, do you try to add a linked entity in a dataflow that's in a new workspace in a premium capacity?

Yes, when adding dataflows I am doing so within new workspaces that are on premium capacity and experience this.
