Connect to Dynamics CRM without user account

Hi All

Is it possible to connect to our Dynamics CRM online without a Dynamics username? We are wanting to have a dashboard setup for one of the finance team.

Many thanks

Rich

@shaboomi This should fall under the "import" category of data. This means that you would be able to connect to your CRM instance, build reports and publish them to Power BI (Service). Then you can either share the dashboard with reports, or create a Content Pack for them to have access to the data set. This process will give them access to the same permission levels of the report author.

If you are asking whether or not they can connect to the data without any CRM credentials on their own, then I would not believe that is possible.

Hi @shaboomi,

When we connect to Dynamics CRM from both Power BI Service and Power BI Desktop, we need to provide a user account to access Dynamics CRM, which is required for security aspect and role level side.

If you want to get data from one finance team, you can provide a enough large account. But please note each query is limited to retrieve a maximum of 100K records in Dynamics CRM content pack. It means if data retrieved from the team exceed this limitation, you need to custom your own report in Power BI desktop then publish to service. For more information, please refer to this article: Microsoft Dynamics CRM content pack for Power BI.

If you have any question, please feel free to ask.
