Is it possible to connect to an azure sql database using an azure active directory user?
I've got the contained database users set up in azure sql and can connect to the database using SSMS and the active directory username/password.
But when I try to connect to the azure sql database in Power BI, the username name@company.com doesn't work. Does it only allow connections by sql logins?
looks like you can use the ODBC setting on the Get Data screen
see following for details
We're in the same position too.
Anybody have an update guys?
Looks like there is an idea out there that needs some more votes. I would assume this has to be in the pipeline, but it's not available yet as far as I can tell. Perhaps some votes will help.
@dannyb_sbm We're in the exact same position! It seems like it bypasses Azure AD and just connects directly to the database using SQL Authentication. A little disappointing given PBI mentions it can support any underlying datasource that allows RLS, however there's no evidence to date that it can be achieved via Azure SQL V12.
I've only had success with database credentials.
