Hello,
Is it possible to expose one pbix file into several workspaces?
My ideal situation is that I would build a dataset in Power BI desktop then upload the PBIX file somewhere. Any user in Power BI service could then Get Data > From File (or other source) > Select that PBIX file, pull it into their workspace and use that dataset to create their own reports. Then if I update the PBIX file, it would automatically update all workspaces in which the file has been connected to.
I have explored using Organization Content Packs but users need to make a copy to build their custom reports so the dataset will end up out of sync. I know that putting the file on One Drive will do the automatic "Publish" but every team has a different One Drive folder so... doesn't quite work.
I know I can build one PBIX file and then use the Publish feature in Power BI Desktop to acheive pretty much what I want. However I want to automate as much maintenance as possible and not having to remember which workspaces use which dataset. I might have to make do but I am pretty new to Power BI so just wandering if someone has found a good solution for this use case.
Thank you for suggestions!
@StephaneOH,
In your scenario, you can create a App workspace in Power BI Service, add these users as members of the App workspace and grant them edit permission.
This way, you can publish the PBIX file to this App workspace, and users can use the dataset to create their reports and get updates you made.

Lydia
Thank you for your anwser Lydia. I am hoping to have several workspaces for the different user groups. For example our finance team would have a finance workspace with all of their reports and our development team a development workspace different from the finance workspace. Yet they both want to build off of the funding data which I would maintain in one Funding.PBIX file.
I am hoping that everytime I make an update to the Funding.PBIX file those changes are automatically picked up in both the finance and the development workspaces, and any other workspace that contains the Funding dataset. At this point it sounds like that is not possible and I would have to push my changes to every workspace, right? There is no automated way to do that, is there?
Many thanks
If your pbix file connect to casv/excel file, in your scenario, you can upload PBIX file to OneDrive for Business, then use "Get data->Files->OneDrive for Business" to connect to the PBIX file in Power BI Service, after that turn on OneDrive refresh.
This way, when you make changes(e.g, create measures, create new visualizations) in the PBIX file, the changes will be reflected in Power BI Service, usually within one hour.
Regards,
Lydia
