Connect SAP HANA to POWER BI Desktop

Dear Experts,

We have installed  On-premise Gateway in Remote desktop and would like to connect SAP HANA and Power BI Desktop and create Reports on HANA Views.

Please provide the step by step procedure and prerequisites to connect SAP HANA.

i have searched in our community and it tells me that the prerequisites are

SAP HANA ODBC driver
SAP Netweaver RFC SDK.

Do we need to install SAP HANA ODBC driver,SAP Netweaver RFC SDK  in the Remote desktop where On-Premise gateway installed or it locally?

Best

@vadlamudibi,

You would need to install the SAP HANA ODBC driver on the machines that have Power BI Desktop and Power BI gateway installed.

To connect to SAP hana in Power BI Desktop, you can follow the guide in this article:https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/desktop-sap-hana.

To add SAP hana data source within Power BI gateway, please follow the instructions in this article:https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/service-gateway-enterprise-manage-sap.

Regards,
Lydia

Power BI Connection – SAP HANA (ODBC)

There are two ways to connect, the first through Hana Connector and the second via ODBC. Please note that all required programs must be supported; that is, POWER BI must have the same Hana Client distribution

1. HANA client installation, distribution according to the equipment(x32 or x64)
Unzip folder
Run as hdbsetup administrator; this installer will install the necessary ODBC connection driver, visual, as well as required add-ons
Caution: When an older version of Visual is installed, errors may be generated, ideally uninstalling the program manually and rerunning the installer

2. Once Hana Client is installed, it is necessary to configure the ODBC Data Source of your computer, note that this exists for each distribution (make sure to run as an appropriate administrator)
Once there, navigate to System DNS, choose the Add option, select HDBODBC; a dialog box will then appear asking for data associated with the name (name for the connection), description (to be assigned), server information
In addition there is an option to test connection, when selecting it, it will ask you for credentials. If the outcome is successful, the process was carried out properly

3. Enter Power BI > Get Data > More > ODBC > Connect(Button)
Configure with credentials

Do you use the same steps to connect to SAP from Excel's Power Query?
