Changing from Personal to Data Gateway failing

Hello,

I am trying to schedule an autorefresh for my data and in trying to change the default gateway from a personal(no longer installed) to a data gateway(installed on a server) it keeps failing.

Any ideas on how to resolve this?

Error pasted below.

I have tried reinstalling the personal to have it available to change away from and that hasn't worked.

Thanks

@Ironpixel In my experience what you should do is get rid of any instances of gateway. Delete registry keys and folder and files from previous installation and then install data gateway.

Hi @Ironpixel,

Based on my test, both personal gateway and on-premise data gateway are installed on the same server previously, and the dataset is set to use the personal gateway. After I uninstall the personal gateway, back to the dataset settings, I'm also able to select the data gateway and click Apply button.

In your scenario, I would suggest you check if you have created a data source under data gateway which use the same connection string as one in Power BI Desktop. You can refer to dparkinson's last reply in this similar thread: Enterprise Gateway - Something Went Wrong. Failed to use the selected gateway.

In addition, does the dataset contains one or more data sources? Data gateway is not supported in some scenarios like one dataset contains data sources connect to SharePoint Online and SQL Server.

If you have any question, please feel free to ask.

Best Regards,

I've seen multiple people have these kinds of problems when trying to swap out the gateway. You can try sending a frowny face to support from the Service.

Hoping for a solution.

Thanks!
