Can I visualise excel worksheet in Power BI ?

Hello,

I have multiple improvment projects ongoing with people recording their progress in individual excel spreadsheets. Their data isn't  contained within a table as the sheet includes text, pictures, diagrams etc. They are updating their worksheets at bi-weekly intervals.

I have developed a Power BI report gathering real-time data related to the individual improvement projects and would like to view the latest version of their spreadsheet when the relevant data is displayed in PowerBI. I need the PowerBI to open the latest version of the individual spreadsheets when viewing data and don't want to manually update the visual monthly.

Can anyone help with this? Thank you in advance for your guidance.

  • Hi Anonymous ,

It sounds like there's a couple of options:

    1) Ask your team to save their spreadsheets to a SharePoint site - use the sharePoint site and file path as a web source in Power BI.

    2) Ask your team to either save their spreadsheets in a specific network folder, or find out where they keep their sheets on the network, set up an Enterprise Gateway that has access to the network - use network location file paths as Excel sources in Power BI.

Both methods will only show new data each time the user saves their spreadsheet.

  • Hi, Anonymous

Fetch files from folders and always select the latest file based on the modification date time.

Sort by Date Modified and then use Keep Rows > Keep Top Rows > N rows.

For illustration, please check the thread below:
