Added Index column in Power Query results in "This table has no rows"

I am troubleshooting some data issues with a model I have inherited.  No changes were made to the dataflows or the structure of the data being added to it, but an error has cropped up.  I've traced the issue to a step in one of the dataflows where an "Added index" after which the error "This Table has no rows".

Step before:

After "Added Index" : no rows

I don't understand how adding an index column could cause "no rows" to result, since there is no filtering function (that I am aware of).  Even more confusing is that this has been working in this form until the last week or so.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

What's the reason for the merge? Can you try without it?

Yeah, I created a similar query from scratch and things worked fine.  It's just annoying not to know the cause of the issue.  I didn't know if there was condition of the data for Indexing that would cause the error.
