I have built dashboard in powerbi using ADO analytics views and in excel to ADO using OData power query
I have the required permission to ado projects and able to get dataset in both powerbi and excel. However, frequently im getting an error Access to the resource is forbidden
whenever i open powerbi dashboard or excel. Hence i couldnt get the data refresh from ado into pwerbi and excel
There are no recent permission changes to the project that im accessing and the odata query used in excel
I am looking forward for a resolution
Hi @SureshA
Try the following steps to resolve it:
1/Check your VPN connection:
Make sure your VPN connection is stable. Connection drops or configuration changes in the VPN can cause “Access to the resource is forbidden” errors.
2/Try without VPN:
If possible, disconnect from the VPN and refresh your Power BI or Excel data. If it works without VPN, then the issue is likely caused by the VPN configuration or restrictions.
3/Review firewall or network restrictions:
Some VPNs apply firewall rules that block certain URLs or ports. Ensure that your VPN or network allows access to Azure DevOps and its OData endpoints.
4/Refresh your credentials:
Re-enter or update your login credentials in Power BI and Excel after connecting through the VPN. Authentication tokens may not pass correctly over some VPN connections.
5/Contact your IT or VPN administrator:
If your organization manages the VPN, ask the network team to check whether traffic to Azure DevOps OData services is being restricted.
I have been using odata to get data from ado in excel. But the error keeps coming when i close and reopen the excel fike. Despite clearing permissions and relogging to ado this error comes and upsets the data refresh and im unable to share thr excel output to mgmt since they too will get same error
Tried to open disconnecting to vpn doesnt help either
Hello @SureshA,
From your description, it appears that the issue is occurring only with the Excel OData connection to Azure DevOps, while your Power BI connection continues to work fine.
Since this behavior is specific to Excel’s OData authentication and refresh, we recommend posting your question in the Microsoft Excel Community: https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/category/microsoft365/discussions/excelgeneral
for targeted assistance the experts there can provide guidance specific to Excel’s connection and credential caching behavior.
Hi @SureshA,
Thank you for posting your query in the Microsoft Fabric Community Forum, and thanks to @Zanqueta for sharing valuable insights.
Could you please confirm if your query has been resolved by the provided solutions? This would be helpful for other members who may encounter similar issues.
Thank you for being part of the Microsoft Fabric Community.
It is not solved
Hello @SureshA,
This issue might be related to the VPN connection. I’ve personally experienced similar problems before. Do you notice if this error happens consistently when you refresh from the same location, for example, at home? If you are connected to a VPN, please try disconnecting it and then test the refresh again to see if that resolves the problem.
Without connecting to vpn im unable to authenticate to ado, hence i need vpn. How do i solve the error
