Prep Your Data for AI — Now in the Power BI Service 

Until now, preparing your data for AI was only possible in Power BI Desktop. That changes today!

As of today, we are rolling out the ability for you to prepare your data for AI directly in the Power BI service. This makes it easier to keep your semantic models Copilot-ready without switching tools — and it unlocks additional model types you can prepare, including Direct Lake models and more. 

Beginning this week, you can now access the same powerful features you know from Power BI Desktop directly in The Power BI Service. These features include the ability to: 

  • Select a Copilot schema 
  • Set up Verified Answers 
  • Add AI instructions 

When you’re ready, remember to update the model setting so users in your organization can start using Copilot with confidence.

If you only see verified answers as an option in the dialog, the additional capabilities are still rolling out worldwide and might not appear for you until next week.

Where to Find the Features 

  1. In The Power BI Service, select the semantic model you want to prep. 
  1. On the model page, select the Prep data for AI button in the ribbon.

From here, you’ll be able to: 

  • Configure an AI data schema 
  • Manage Verified Answers 
  • Create AI instructions 

To set up a Verified Answer, open one of the reports built on the model, select a visual, select 'menu', then set up a verified answer.

  • Less friction: Fine-tune AI prep in the same place you manage and share reports. 
  • Copilot readiness: The standalone Copilot experience is now available in all tenants. Bringing AI prep into the service ensures all models can be ready to interact with AI — no extra hops required. 
  • Unlock more prep scenarios: With prep data for AI features coming to the web you can now do fine-tuning on models in Direct Lake and large import!
