Decisions happen in context. And apps are curated and customized content experiences for reporting around a context like an app for a project, an app for a department, or an app for leadership reporting. So, we’re excited to announce that the ability to chat with your curated data (like standalone Copilot) within the context of an app!

App-scoped Copilot lets users search for reports within an app, ask questions, and receive answers based on the reports in that app. App Copilot is a separate complement to report-scoped Copilot already available on each report viewed in an app.

Use app Copilot to ask questions or get summaries based on reports in the app. Find app Copilot in your app navigation and ask a question. Looking over the curated content in your app, Copilot will first find the most likely items you’d want to reference, ask you to confirm which one you’d like to use, and then return the result.

With verified answers, app authors can work with report authors to prepare your data for AI and trigger human-approved, visual responses that get matched with predefined phrases.

Helpful tips for app authors: make sure your app users get connected with those human-approved answers, update your app after verified answers have been created to push all report changes into your app.
Just like in standalone Coplot, ask for summaries to get insights and visuals based on an entire report or a specific topic with that report. For example, if you know exactly which report you’d like to summarize, you can attach it to your chat using ‘+’ Add content for Copilot to reference…then ask for your summary:

App authors, you have control over app Copilot shown in your app navigation. If Copilot is enabled in your tenant, app Copilot (Preview) is default on in workspace apps. App Copilot is not yet available in org apps (Preview). But you can control visibility of app Copilot in your workspace apps from Update app > Setup > Advanced Settings > Show Copilot in app navigation.

Like seen during a sneak peek at the Fabric Community Conference in Europe, we’re working on more for app Copilot – from a more conversational experience without the need to pick an item every time you ask a question to the ability to get an overview of the reporting in an app. But just like all app improvements and Copilot improvements to date, we depend on your feedback.
As you use app Copilot, use the thumbs up and thumbs down emojis on responses and let us know what you think. Or comment on this article and post ideas to the Fabric community.
