Last month, we shared a packed September update alongside the European Microsoft Fabric + SQL Community Conference. Even so, the Power BI team has continued delivering new capabilities, and we didn't...
Another meaningful update from MS team, thanks (Gantt chart is especially significant for many colleagues, I'm encouraging them to test it ASAP).
Regarding the newly added dropdown function for the List slicer (preview), I've noticed a number of formatting anomalies and would like to raise these in relation to some other slicer related inconsistencies, in the hope we can get better alignment going forward:
Slicer spacing comparison (discrepancies highlighted in red)
List slicer (dropdown): The spacing currently works quite well for the most part, however for some reason there is extra padding (or a quirk that has the same effect) which is pushing the dismiss button (X symbol) down, as if it's aligned to the baseline of each pill.
Default slicer (dropdown): Much like the dismiss button in the list slicer [with dropdown], the text has extra padding at the top of the dropdown selection.
Input slicer: Another spacing issue but in reverse, there is extra padding underneath the main text/pills in the window, with the result that the main selector window is several pixels taller (deeper) than the other two similar slicer styles.
Overall I appreciate these slicers are serving different functions, but greater consistency for these details would improve the intuitiveness for end users as the design and layout becomes more cohesive. On a related topic, is it also expected that the extra (default/irremovable) inset padding along the left and right margins within the containers for regular slicers will be removed? At the moment this continues to make layout inconsistent for PBI authors, since 'true' technical alignment isn't possible between old and newer slicers (see container discrepancies in screenshots below), thanks!
Default slicer detail, left/right margin discrepancy highlighted red (extra margin inset of a few pixels either side when padding set to zero), with comparison slicer margins (new list and input slicer respectively) shown on the left and right in green.Further reference showing padding settings (highlighted red) at zero with extra default inset on left/right container margins still in place.
