We’re pleased to announced that the long-anticipated public preview of the paginated report visual for Power BI reports is now available in the June release of Power BI Desktop. For the first time, this native Power BI visual allows you to render any paginated report you’ve uploaded to the service in a Power BI report. And because you can wire up fields from your Power BI dataset to be used as parameter values, thus providing a fully-interactive experience with the paginated report, just like any other visual.

Once you add the visual to your report canvas, you’ll select a paginated report you’ve already created and uploaded to the service. You’ll need to select a paginated report from the one of your Premium workspaces.

Keep in mind whichever workspace you select your paginated report from is the one you’ll want to save your Power BI report to upon completion.
If you add a report with parameters, you’ll be prompted to choose which fields should map to those parameters from your Power BI field well.

Or, if default parameters have been set by the report author, you may simply choose to render the report with those as well.

Once completed, your paginated report will render, and if you have other visuals that affect the field you’ve selected for the parameter value(s), the report will update each time you select the “Apply Changes” after making a change in a visual or filter that affects the paginated report.

Or, optionally, you may turn on the auto-update capability and update the paginated report automatically each time you interact with a slicer/filter/visual. Depending on the nature of the report, the paginated report may take some time to render after each change.

If you’ve enabled the toolbar for your visual, you can page through to view additional pages of the report, or export the paginated report to any of the supported formats for paginated reports, including Excel, Word, PDF and more. There is no 150k row limitation with paginated report exports, so you can export out to Excel and other formats all of the report data while retaining the formatting you had in your paginated report.
We hope you’re as excited as we are about the possibilities this unlocks for the Power BI community. Please make sure you check out the documentation link below, and leave your feedback in the comments below. Thanks for reading!
