Deprecation of Metric Sets in Power BI

The Metric Sets feature in Power BI will be deprecated, with a phased retirement beginning October 25th, 2025.

What’s Changing and When

• October 25th, 2025: Creation of new Metric Sets will be disabled.
• November 15th, 2025: Full retirement. Metric Sets will no longer be accessible in Power BI Service or Desktop.

Scorecards and all associated datasets or measures will not be impacted by this change.

Recommended alternatives

If you have relied on Metric Sets, here are recommended approaches to continue managing and tracking your business metrics:

• Use underlying datasets and measures directly: All metrics in a Metric Set are actually measures in a Power BI dataset. You can continue to use these measures directly in your reports and dashboards.
• Leverage certified or shared datasets: For a single source of truth, designate certified or shared datasets as your central repository for business metrics.
• Continue with Power BI Scorecards: For tracking metric values and statuses over time, Scorecards remain a robust and actively supported solution.
• Explore new metrics experiences: Keep an eye out for new capabilities in Power BI, such as enhanced artifact discovery in Copilot-powered search, which are intended to make it easier to find objects.
