Four data creators. One dataset. Zero room for error.
The finalists have been selected! Congratulations to Daniel Guevara, Paulo Grijo, Aanor Le Gouic, and Yasuteru Kashu, who are invited to join us live on stage in Vienna at the Fabric Community Conference! Read the full blog post to learn more!
It was hard to pick only 4! Stay tuned for our article on other standout entries, that we lovingly refer to as Judges Favorites.
Meet the judges!
🏆 How It Works
We're kicking off with a single preliminary round:
From all submissions, four finalists will be selected to compete live at FabCon Vienna on September 16, building a compelling Power BI report from the same dataset in real-time.
💡 What’s Provided (all source data links can be found on GitHub)
The theme of this contest is Life in Europe. Your report, including any data that you add to the provided model, must reflect this theme.
A defined audience scenario - the consumers of this report are data journalists, editors, and content producers
Judging criteria (below)
You have flexibility in how to approach the dataset:
You can use the starter file as-is
You can build your own semantic model using the provided sources
You can enhance your report with additional open-source data (be sure to cite your sources)
🔔 Important:
You must use some of the provided data and stick to the contest theme - but how you get there is up to you. Remember, we're looking for creativity, so feel free to add fun data that tells a story about Europe!
🧠 Judging Criteria
A panel of celebrity judges will score each entry based on:
🏅 What You Could Win
🎯 Who Should Join
🆕 What's New?
This is the first contest we're running where YOU, the community, get a say! The number of kudos on entries will comprise a portion of the score!
✅ Submission Guidelines
Ready to enter? Here’s what you need to know to submit your best work:
Stick to the Theme: Your report must focus on “Life in Europe.” Use the provided semantic model and data sources, and feel free to add open-source data, just keep the theme clear and cite your sources.
Use the Provided Data: You must include some of the provided data. Use the starter model as-is, build your own from the sources, or enhance it with additional open data.
Keep It Concise: Reports should have five pages or fewer. Custom canvas sizes should contain about the same amount of content.
Be Original: Submissions must be your own individual work.
Format: Submit a .pbix file or Publish to Web URL in the contest gallery.
Deadline: All entries are due by Aug 18, 2025, at 11:59pm PST.
