Power BI DataViz World Championships - How it works!

The competition consists of 4 qualifying rounds over the course of 4 weeks, culminating in a live finale that takes place at the Fabric Community Conference in Las Vegas on March 31st! Each week, you'll have an opportunity to submit your best Power BI visualization for the designated dataset.

• Winners of each round: One winner will be selected each week, for a total of 4 finalists. 
• Grand finale: The 4 finalists will face off in-person at the Microsoft Fabric Community Conference, where they will present their solutions live on stage to an audience and judging panel.

Each qualifying round will open and close on a Friday. Round 4 starts at 11:59pm Pacific on Friday March 7th, with submissions due by 11:59pm Pacific the following Friday, the 14th. Winners will be announced the following week. Key dates for the full competition are as follows:

How to Enter

1. Join the Fabric Community: You must be a member of the Fabric community to participate. Select either Register or Sign-In in the menu at the top of this page to join!
2. Read the Challenge Requirements: A new challenge will be released on Fridays for 4 consecutive weeks, beginning on Friday, Feb 14.
3. Create Your Winning Report: Use Power BI to design data visualizations that are insightful, visually effective, and accessible. Your report must contain at least one core visual and no more than 5 report pages.
4. Submit Your Entry: Each week's challenge will provide submission details. Note that you do NOT need to have a Power BI tenant to submit. You can submit either a Publish to Web URL or a Power BI Desktop file (.pbix).

Judging Criteria 

Submissions will be scored out of 30 points based on the following:

• Insightfulness (10 points)
  • Clarity of Insights (1-5 points)
  • Relevance of Insights (1-5 points)
• Visual Effectiveness (10 points)
  • Simplicity and Cleanliness (1-3 points)
  • Effective Use of Text and Color (1-3 points)
  • Appropriateness of Visual Elements (1-4 points)
• Accessibility (10 points)
  • Tab Order (1-3 points)
  • Alt Text (1-3 points)
  • Color Contrast (1-4 points)

Prizes

• 🥈 Finalists: 4 finalists will receive a conference pass and 3 nights hotel accommodation at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
• 📈Top entries: Top entries from all rounds will also be featured on the Power BI Community Website, giving you an opportunity to showcase your work to a global audience!
• 🏆 World champion: The World Champ will go head-to-head with the winner of the FabCon EU World Championships in a live challenge.

I've just noticed, and would like to point out for others, that the end time in this post is now different from the official rules end time for each round of 11.59pm PT (screenshot from the provided rules attached)

I hope the judges will let me know the score of my submission, so that I know where i can improve on. I don't mind if it's a direct message or a comment on the content gallery.

@elaine_dunwoodyFrom what I've read, I don't think the judges will be sharing their feedback. That said, perhaps some of the viewers, which might a judges, will provide feedback as a comment.

In my case, I decided not to embed my visual because Azure maps embedding in public links is not enabled yet, so I don't expect anybody to provide feedback unless they download the file. Screenshots don't do justice to it.

If you are going to organize this kind of competition again, you should consider that there are audience defined in the each challenge. Now it feels that winners audience is always "someone who just got a link to report somewhere". In reality, this kind of reports rarely created and expecially week 1 and 2 winners are very poor in business point of view. Those reports tells a story in a very good way but like a good story, you just want to read it once or maximum twice. But when we create a report to business users, we can't use that kind of technic because those reports are planned to use daily or weekly bases and stories won't work at all in this kind of scenarios.

Even the reports are nice and competition feels exciting, it does not give me a lot in professional point of view. And this is sad because this kind of competitions can be very good to learn things. Now I mostly learn that what I should not do.

@VilleQvist - thanks so much for this feedback! You have a very good point about defining an audience, and as report developers, isn't that one of the very first things we do in the requirements gathering process? We're actively discussing this as an organizing team and I really appreciate the callout! Most definitely noted and will be addressed for next time.
