Week 3 of the Power BI Dataviz World Championships delivered exactly what we hope for at this stage of the competition - confidence, polish, and a clear point of view.

Quick reminder, this was our third and final preliminary round to select 4 finalists to appear live, on-stage, in Atlanta, Georgia for the grand finale of the Power BI Dataviz World Championships at FabCon! We now have 3 finalists - congrats to @Gusbavia@ruxandravilau, and, the week 3 winner...@TauSol!

Check out all of the judges favorites and winners entries from all three rounds over in the gallery, and be sure to continue to vote on your favorites! Now, on to the week 3 wins!

With the Olympicsโ€‘themed dataset, creators moved beyond surfaceโ€‘level analysis and into storytelling with intent - balancing insight, design, accessibility, and narrative in very different (and equally compelling) ways. According to the judges, this was also the tightest competition so far, with several entries clustered at the top and tough tradeโ€‘offs between artistic expression and traditional dashboarding.

After thoughtful debate, we have a Week 3 winner - plus a small but mighty set of Judgesโ€™ Favorites worth celebrating.

๐Ÿฅ‡ Week 3 Winner

Olympic Evolution and Global Shift by @TauSol - Michal Jezic (LinkedIn)

Michal's winning entry stood out for doing something deceptively hard: telling a rich, multiโ€‘decade Olympic story in a way that felt both analytical and accessible.

The judges highlighted several strengths:

  • A clean, highly structured layout that made complex comparisons easy to follow
  • Strong use of navigation and framing, giving the report a clear rhythm and flow
  • Thoughtful analytical angles that surfaced insights many judges hadnโ€™t seen before
  • A design that felt unmistakably Power BI - leveraging the platformโ€™s strengths without overโ€‘engineering

While Week 3 featured some stunning longโ€‘form infographic designs, the judges ultimately agreed that this entry struck the best balance between story, substance, and usability, making it a standout winner in a very competitive round.

๐ŸŽ‰ Congratulations to you Michal! This entry earns a spot as one of our official World Champs finalists.

โญ Judgesโ€™ Favorites โ€“ Week 3

In addition to the winner, the judges called out a small set of entries that pushed boundaries in unique ways and sparked great discussion.

๐Ÿ”ฅ Gender Parity in the Winter Olympics by @MariusHelle

Marius' entry immediately grabbed attention with its infographic format, bold visual metaphors, and confident design choices. Congratulations on being in the top entries again, Marius!

Judges LOVED:

  • Exceptional use of white space and visual hierarchy
  • Creative integration of imagery without overwhelming the data
  • Outstanding accessibility work, including thoughtful alt text applied consistently across visuals

While some analytical tradeโ€‘offs kept it from the top spot, this piece was widely recognized as one of the most visually striking submissions of the round.

๐Ÿง  A Century of Olympic History by @syazwansharani - Syazwan Sharani (LinkedIn)

Another Judgesโ€™ Favorite leaned heavily into visual storytelling and custom design, delivering an experience that felt closer to a digital art piece than a traditional report. Judges loved the ambition, imagery, and moments of delight. Syazwan's entry was a strong example of creative riskโ€‘taking done well.

๐Ÿ“Š 126 Years, 3 Stories by @PowerBIPark - Injae Park (LinkedIn)

Injae's entry earned recognition for introducing a novel analytical perspective that hadnโ€™t appeared elsewhere in the contest. Injae's underlying idea and execution demonstrated real growth and adaptability - something the judges pay close attention to at this stage of the competition. The intentional editing and presentation of data blew us away! Congrats on another week in the top, Injae!

๐Ÿ” Why Week 3 Was Different

Judges noted that Week 3 felt like a turning point:

  • Fewer โ€œexperiments,โ€ more intentional design decisions
  • Stronger alignment with accessibility expectations
  • Clear evidence that creators are adapting based on prior weeksโ€™ feedback

This made judging easier in some ways, and harder in others. The margin between the top entries was razor thin, and several of you all are now firmly in the conversation for the Wildcard finalist spot, which will be announced next week, on or before 18 Feb!

๐Ÿš€ Whatโ€™s Next

With three weekly winners now selected, all eyes turn to the Wildcard decision, where judges will look holistically across Weeks 1โ€“3 to identify one more finalist who deserves a spot among the finalists. This will be the toughest decision yet, as we have seen EXCEPTIONAL work from so many of you throughout the contest!

Stay tunedโ€”thereโ€™s more to come, and the road to the World Champs finale is not over!

๐Ÿ‘ Huge thanks to everyone who participated in Week 3, and congratulations again to our winner and Judgesโ€™ Favorites!
