Power BI iOS App no write NFC tag

Hi all, trying to write an NFC tag I get the error “Registration could not be performed in the NFC tag”.

If I try to read the tag from the Power BI app, it tells me that the tag (rightly) is empty.

The NTAG216 type tag has enough space to save Power BI data, and if I try with a different iOS app, I can write and read the tag without problem.

Has anyone encountered the same problem? Could it depend on the type of tag, even though it is the type most compatible with mobile devices?

Thanks to all

    Hi NiccoQuad ,

    The tag needs the below requirements, please refer to

    • NFC tags: High quality NFC tags that are compatible with the NFC Data Exchange Format (NDEF). Minimum memory required: 504 bytes.
    • Mobile device:
      • Must be compatible to work with NFC and be able to read tags of types 1 through 5 that contain data in NDEF. Only compatible devices can see the Power BI mobile app NFC feature.
      • The Power BI mobile app must be installed on the device.
      • On Android devices, the NFC setting must be enabled.

  • Dear Anonymous thank you for the reply.

    We did several tests and saw that:
    - the tag is correctly written/read by an Android Galaxy A34 device, running the Power BI app version 21204641;
    - the same tag is not written by two Apple devices iPhone 13 with iOS 17.6.1 and iPhone 12 with iOS 17.7, running the Power BI app version 32.4;
    - the same tag, after it is written by the Android device, is read correctly by the Apple devices;
    - therefore the tag model (as a technical specification) is correct, I would say that there is a problem on the iOS application side. Can this be reported to the iOS developers?

    Thank you for the support

      Thanks Anonymous , after opened ticket to support I was suggested to uninstall and reinstall the iOS app and ... it worked. From iOS I can now write NFC tags ... simple solution without a clear explanation. In any case it works 🙂
