Power BI APP Question

Currently, Power BI does not support linking reports across workspaces each report copy is a separate object. This is confirmed in Microsoft’s documentation on Power BI workspaces, which states that datasets can be reused across workspaces, but not reports.

As for future enhancements while we don’t have visibility into Microsoft’s roadmap, features like linked reports or report versioning across workspaces have been requested in the Power BI Ideas forum. You can follow or upvote similar ideas here: Fabric Ideas - Microsoft Fabric Community

Thank you for clarifying. From your explanation, this behavior is expected and not related to your role or permissions. When you link a report from another workspace to the app, it loads properly in “New Tab” or “Current Tab” modes, as these open the report directly.
However, the “Content Area” option tries to embed the report using an iframe, and Power BI restricts cross-workspace embedding for security reasons. This means the embed will fail if the report isn’t in the same workspace as the app, even for admins.
To address this, you can either copy the report and its dataset into the app’s workspace so it loads in the content area or keep using the “New Tab” or “Current Tab” options for reports from other workspaces.

Thanks for explaining why this happens. I have another question.
When copying a report to a new workspace, I understand that if the original report is modified, the copied report is not updated. Is there a way to automatically update the copied report when the original report is modified?
