Hi @PeterWessels

What is the data source for datamart? Can you access the datasource properly and when does the refresh failure happen? If you create a datamart with the same data source, can you refresh it properly?

Hi  @OscarLake

On-premises data gateway (cloud) ?  Can you explain it in detail ? Your data source (MS SQL server) is on a bussiness server , is this server local or in the cloud? So you are using Power BI Service on your laptop to connect to SQL?

Hi @Shashi_Pothu-99 ,

Based on the above information, your issue is complex which may need to collect log files for further troubleshooting. Since community support engineers don't have that access, I would suggest opening a Support Ticket. If you are a Power BI Pro or Fabric licensee, you can create a support ticket for free and a dedicated Microsoft engineer will come to solve the problem for you.
It would be great if you continue to share in this issue to help others with similar problems after you know the root cause or solution.

Hi @ddubey1 ,

You may check this in Power BI Desktop, go to the “File” tab, and select “Options and Settings” > “Data source settings.” Select the data source and click on “Edit Permissions”. In the “Edit Permissions” window, change the Privacy Level to “None,” and click “OK” to save the setting.

Then retry it to see if it works. Also, please make sure you have configured the right credentials in Service.

Hi  @is001902 ,

If the SQL Server is under heavy load or if there’s a long-running query, it might cause timeouts. You may try monitor the SQL Server’s performance and check for any slow-running queries.
Sometimes, spikes in the number of connections also lead to issues. You could try refreshing the credentials in the data source settings of the semantic model.

Hi @lFahadl ,

Can you describe the exact scenario in which the problem occurs so that we can reproduce your issue?
Is this the latest version of Power BI Desktop?

Hi @mccloudy ,

The VNet Data Gateway is billed as an additive premium infrastructure charge, associated with a Premium or Fabric capacity. This means that it has its own meter and incurs a bill that is consistent across and in addition to all artifacts. The total bill of running an artifact through the VNET Data Gateway is the sum of the Artifact Charge and the VNET Data Gateway Charge.
The VNET Data Gateway Charge is proportional to your usage of the VNET Data Gateway; usage is defined as uptime, or anytime the VNET Data Gateway is on. A single VNET Data Gateway uses two cores. The Consumption Unit (CU) consumption rate is 2x. Therefore, the price is calculated as follows:
Price=2x(CU Consumption rate)×2 cores (per VNET Data Gateway)×$0.18(Pay as You Go price for one CU per hour)=$0.72 per VNET/hour.
Please note that there’s no cost associated with setting up a VNET data gateway. Billing starts when your first query runs or you run a test connection. To reduce costs, you can actively manage the time to live on your VNET data gateway in settings.

Hi @ars

When you use multiple data sources in a report , you need to consider configuring the corresponding gateways for those data sources. The gateway you configured on Service does not apply to all data sources, so you need to configure it separately.

Hi  @alraawygroup ,

Sometimes, the network you’re using could be causing the issue. If possible, try changing your Internet environment.
Please try to clear your browser cache or trying to access the registration in an InPrivate or Incognito window might help.
The issue could be due to the phone number or email address you’re using for registration being used too many times for Office 365 services. Try using a different phone number and email address.

Hi @naresh202 ,

I don't really understand your description.
Are you experiencing is the following scenario:
You have connected to a local data source using Power BI Desktop and then created reports to publish to Power BI Service and now you want to configure a gateway for this data source.

If yes, you can refer this link below:

Hi  @Elmarie_Kies ,

We see that you mention that only one particular country has problems with the data. Each has its own local gateway and connection. This could be due to a variety of reasons, including issues with the on-premises gateway, the data being loaded, or the Dataflow Gen 2 itself.

Please try to upgrade the gateway version to the latest. After updating, restart the gateway and try publishing the Dataflow Gen 2 again.
You may also consider any recent changes you’ve made to the Dataflow or the data. If possible, try reverting those changes to see if it resolves the issue.
The advice above should be based on this single country rather than your local gateway.

Hi  @AMZBrandon

You mentioned that you have created reports before and never needed to set gateway up , can you refresh your gateway manually ? In Power BI Service , you can see the connector "Azure DepOps Server (Boards Only)" in Manage gateways , maybe you can try to install a standard gateway to test the scheduled refresh .

Hi @Analyst-Rene ,

Based on your description, for merged data sources. You need to make sure you have enabled cloud source refresh in your gateway settings.Merge or append on-premises and cloud data sources - Power BI | Microsoft Learn
