Hi @HCBC,

Based on my test in the desktop version 2.53.4954.621, See Records works fine when get data from SQL database. Please try to update the desktop to the latest version as ours then test again.

Also make sure you didn't hit limitations: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/desktop-see-data-see-records#limitations

If issue persists, please share more information for us to reproduce the issue, eg: which data source connect to, which visualused to visualize data, etc.

Best Regards,
Qiuyun Yu

Thanks Qiuyun.  I tried the latest version you mentioned but no luck at all.  I found that I replaced the hierachy at "Rows" property of Matrix by a column of my table and it works fine.  I think "Rows" property of Matrix doesn't support hierachy in Dec 2017 version.

Hi @HCBC,

Did you create this hierarchy in Power BI or the hierarchy from SSAS cube?

Based on my test with SQL database with DirectQuery in desktop version 2.53.4954.621 64-bit (December 2017), created hierarchy in Power BI does work with See Records in matrix visuals. Would you please share detail information for us to reproduce the issue?

Hi Qiuyun,

I created the hierachy in power bi desktop.  Here below the error message prompted.

power bi error screen.gif

Also, please see the addtional information for your study:

  1. SQL Server Version = Enterprise 64-bit
  2. Total records = 4,140,000
  3. I converted my power bi file from direct query mode to import mode and the result are same

Hope this can help.
