Unable to view/read reports after license changed from Power Bi Free to Microsoft Fabric.

People had no issues viewing/reading reports generated by people using Power Bi Premium with Power Bi Free.  They don't need to do anything else but that.  It now after our Power Bi Free switched to Microsoft Fabric, it comes up when they try to read them stating check out our Premium at $20 a month per person.  How do I get back that feature that the free version had, since we have a fair number of people that need to be able to read these reports, and I am not buying a bunch of $20 a month licenses.

Hi @rconiv

Your Premium license has not expired, right? There is no similar known issue at the moment, you can refer to the following link for the content of the fabric license.

@v-yetao1-msft nothing wrong with the permium licenses, they work fine and the license is good till September.  My issue is about people that had Power Bi Free licenses, that up through Friday could view reports generated by people that do have Premium licenses, but starting Monday, they get a message that they need Power Bi Premium to view the reports.

Looking at the link you sent, is it possible since we are using Power Bi Per User, that the features that were part of free for reading reports got taken away, and we have to have a capacity license now?  Until yesterday when we got a pro license for someone who had a free license since it is only $10 a month instead of $20 for Premium, everyone had either Premium or Free.

Individual licenses

Individual licenses allow users to work in Microsoft Fabric. There are two types of individual licenses:

  • Free - A free license allows you to create and share Fabric content in Microsoft Fabric if you have access to a Fabric Capacity (either trial or paid).

  • Pro - A Pro license lets you share Power BI content with other users. Every organization needs at least one Pro license if they intend to work with Power BI. If you're purchasing a Microsoft Fabric license for your organization, ensure you purchase at least one Pro license for your organization.

Hi @rconiv

After you got a pro license for someone who had a free license , can these users access the content in Service ?

@v-yetao1-msft no, they are still getting the same message saying they need to have a Premium license, even with the Pro license.

@rconiv the users with Pro license are trying to access content that is hosted on PPU Workspace, if that is correct, this issue is expected. If you want the PPU users and Pro users be able to access the workspace, then you will need to make sure the workspace is set up as Pro licensing.

Free users cannot see content that is hosted in Pro or PPU workspaces, they can only view content in they own personal workspace OR content hosted in Premium Capacities.

@IrkenCR yes, the initial question was about what happened.  At some point the license changed and it went from people with free licenses could access what was needed to either we have to pay for a Pro licenses at around $10 a month per user or get a rather expensive premium capacity.
